Gap Year Travel
There are so many things you can do on your gap year, but here at Projects Abroad we think travelling is one of the most exciting and worthwhile options. We’re also experts with a proven track record, helping volunteers plan their gap years, whether they’re career breakers or have just finished school.
Gap year travel combinations
If you’re going to the expense and effort of travelling across the world, you may as well explore more than one country while you’re at it! Here are some suggested Projects Abroad combinations:
- Nomad project in Mongolia + Business in China
Live and work with nomads in Mongolia, immersing yourself in their way of life, after which you will spend time in China, gaining invaluable work experience on our Business placement in China.
- Incan & Wari Archaeology in Peru + Galapagos Island Conservation in Ecuador
Our Incan & Wari Archaeology project in Peru will give you fascinating insight into this ancient civilisation, while the Galapagos Island Conservation project in Ecuador is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on conservation experience with the native wildlife, including giant tortoises and sea lions.
- Micro-finance in Senegal + Human Rights in Morocco
Help former talibés set up and maintain their own small-businesses on our Micro-finance project in Senegal, followed by some time spent on our Human Rights placement in Morocco, where volunteers will work on issues of topical importance.
- Teaching in Vietnam + Care in Cambodia
Join a Teaching project in Vietnam, where you will help students with their English, and then travel to a Care placement in Cambodia, providing emotional support and everyday help for children in care centres and kindergartens.
- Nutrition in Fiji + School Sports in Samoa The Nutrition programme in Fiji works to address the main health issues facing communities, while volunteers on our School Sports initiative in Samoa teach a variety of sports to children in local schools.

Arranging your travel
Start off your gap year hassle-free and allow us to book your flights for you. We use safe and reliable scheduled airlines, arrange your transfers automatically, and if possible, place you on a flight with another volunteer.
The cost of the project also covers the transport between your accommodation and volunteer placement. In some of our destinations such as Southeast Asia, travel is also quite cost-effective, so you have the opportunity to venture further afield and explore after your project has finished.
For over 20 years Projects Abroad have been experts in volunteering abroad, work experience and gap year placements.
