In Sri Lanka, the damage to whole towns and the infrastructure has meant that, for the most part, we have paused this month in sending our volunteers to this region. However, the last thing our friends in Sri Lanka want is for us to stay away and we hope to send as many volunteers as possible in a month or so. We will naturally keep a very close eye on health and safety issues.
How Projects Abroad are helping:
- In Sri Lanka some current teaching, care & community, active learning and conservation volunteers are helping with various reconstruction projects south of Colombo.
- In Thailand our staff are allocating current volunteers to help with the influx of children to orphanages near the island of Phuket. Some of our new Care & Community volunteers will be allocated to these orphanages over the following months.
- All our projects are still running, with volunteers helping in practical ways, and their spending power boosting the local economies.
People have been calling us asking how they can help. At the moment the best way to help from home is by donating money to the Disasters Emergency Committee.
