Learn Patois in Jamaica
Immerse yourself fully in the fascinating Jamaican culture on one of our intensive Patois Language projects. Patois features largely English words superimposed on West African grammar. The language was developed in the 17th century when slaves from West and Central Africa were exposed to English. Patois exists mostly as a spoken language and is widely used throughout Jamaica.
There are two options when it comes to learning Patois in Jamaica. You can choose to take part in an intensive standalone Language Course, where you will receive around 15 hours of tuition per week.
After completing your Patois Language Course, you can also choose to spend time working on one of our Jamaica volunteer projects, such as Teaching or Care, and put your newly acquired language skills to use in a practical working environment.
Alternatively, you can choose to sign up for our 5-hour, 14-hour, or 30-hour Language Course add-ons, which run alongside your main volunteer project. These prices are in addition to your main project price. Please take a look at our Jamaica language prices for more information.
Lessons are with a qualified language teacher, are tailored to your personal level, and can be adapted to your interests.
