Playing sport is about so much more than simply the physical side. It can be incredibly rewarding for children to participate in because it develops notions of team work, fair play and respect, which in turn help to develop character. Within this social context having access to sports is also good for communities because sport focuses the minds of younger people, occupying them with a wholesome, worthwhile activity.

By taking part on a Multi-sports project in Morocco, you will not only teach children the importance of sport, but you will also inspire them by acting as a mentor and role model and as a result help them improve their overall self-confidence and sense of worth.

To take part in this project you do not need to have any previous experience in coaching, although it is fantastic if you already have some. Volunteers are welcome no matter what stage of life they are at - during a gap year from education, a career break or even as an alternative holiday.

Multi-sports in Morocco with Projects Abroad

A volunteer coaches a local soccer team in Morocco

If you have a passion for developing sport in communities then you can help to coach children in football, basketball or volleyball as a volunteer sports coach. You will work with a partner organisation in Rabat that facilitates sports within the community, for children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. When taking part in this Multi-sports programme, you will be supervised by experienced staff that are always open to hearing your suggestions. They will show you how things are done, and depending on your confidence you will be able to coach a team on your own.

Volunteers work from Monday to Friday and have the option of working during the mornings or afternoons; for at least 20 hours per week. Occasionally, you will be required to work on weekends to assist with extra activities, or travel with the organisation to a different town or city to help facilitate sports matches.

There are about 14 to 20 groups of children who participate in the football, basketball or volleyball programme at a time, so the need for volunteer assistance is increasing. Please let us know where your interests lie once you have applied.

Those taking part in this project need to be a sports enthusiast, and have a reasonable level of spoken Arabic or French. All our volunteers live with local host families in Rabat and will have the opportunity to do fun activities on the weekend such as visiting markets, going scuba diving, camel trekking, and more.

You can join a Multi-sports project in Morocco for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
