A volunteer on the Easter Conservation Project in Peru

As a volunteer on the Conservation in Peru Easter project, you will live and work in the heart of the Amazon jungle for a week. You will join a group of volunteers from around the world at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve and Research Centre, where you will contribute to ongoing rainforest conservation efforts.

Animal welfare is a critical aspect of the project. This means that a significant part of your week will involve assisting our dedicated staff at the animal rescue centre, which cares for more than 25 different animal species. You will also take part in biodiversity studies and help the staff as they release rehabilitated animals back into the wild. To date, the staff and volunteers in Peru have successfully released a jaguar, a puma, two tapirs, and numerous species of birds, reptiles and mammals.

Your tasks on the project will include:

  • Feeding animals and maintaining enclosures
  • Observing wild animals, reptiles, amphibians and butterflies (some observations are conducted from the tallest canopy walk in South America)
  • Assisting local staff with scientific research
  • Bird tagging
  • Trail maintenance
  • Agriculture work on farming plots

At the Conservation project, you will live at the Taricaya lodge in shared housing. In your free time, you can relax at the lodge and socialize with other volunteers.
