Medicine in Tanzania
High School Specials for 15-18 Year Olds
- Placement location: Arusha
- Types of placements: Hospital
- Accommodation: Host Families or Guesthouse
- Age Requirements: 16-19 years old
This programme allows volunteers to learn about many different aspects of medical treatments and healthcare in Tanzania. Volunteers are based in Arusha and live with local host families or in a guesthouse in the area. The work will be varied; you could be learning from local doctors in a large hospital one day and treating local Masai in a rural location the next.
You will have the chance to attend regular medical workshops and learn more about current local issues such as HIV and tropical diseases. Over the years Tanzania has tried hard to teach the younger generation about the need to be careful and stay healthy. During your two weeks you may be able to go to the local care centres and carry out fun and interactive activities with the children regarding different healthcare issues.
During the weekend you will get the opportunity to experience the breathtaking scenery in one of Tanzania's national parks.
Those joining us on the four week programme will get extra visits and activities arranged during the other weekends.
Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2017 High School Specials Impact Report.
