Global Gap Year is an innovative 27-week volunteer programme for gap year students who want a far-ranging international experience that spans three continents, five countries, and twelve different volunteer opportunities. By offering immersion opportunities in local communities around the globe, Global Gap offers a unique way to explore new places, learn about important global issues and help out on worthwhile volunteer projects.
The Global Gap programme is designed for gap year students taking a year off before going into higher education. The programme consists of a one week orientation and three week Care programme in Ghana, followed by one-to-two month programmes in each of South Africa, Peru, Nepal and Thailand.
In each of these countries, volunteers will work closely with our local staff members on projects that lend insight into important issues in developing countries like housing, education, environmental conservation and human rights.

South Africa is a unique environment in which to spend time volunteering and is a thriving and lively destination. Projects Abroad is based in the bustling cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, close to the southern tip of the African continent.
Peru is a fascinating and beautiful country with an extensive Pacific coastline, a vast area of Amazon rainforest and the magnificent Andes. Peru provides an opportunity for volunteers to experience much of what South America offers within just one country.
Medicine or Himalayan Mountain Conservation
Nepal is a small yet stunning land of snow-capped mountains, majestic Buddhist temples, and the ancient capital city of Kathmandu. Although Nepal is known for the Himalayas and Mount Everest, it is actually one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet.
Thailand is a great introduction to South East Asia. It's a beautiful country with pristine beaches, exotic food and golden temples. However, anyone doing international volunteer work in Thailand will go beyond the country that tourists see and discover an incredibly friendly people with a unique culture.
