Based in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s largest city, the High School Special Medicine project is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to experience and understand the medical systems in a developing country.
Volunteers will be under the supervision of a Projects Abroad Coordinator; and will spend time in the different departments of a general hospital, as well as visit a hospital specialising in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.
During your two or three weeks you will also attend a workshop on medical practices in Sri Lanka, and help directly tackle health issues in the area by taking part in a two-day medical outreach programme in a local community centre.
Projects Abroad will arrange a weekend trip to Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural capital, which is an UNESCO World Heritage site.
Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2017 High School Specials Impact Report.
