Learning English in Belize
Boost your English skills in Belize while exploring the country and meeting new people from around the globe. English is the official language in Belize, which gives you plenty of opportunities to build your knowledge of the language and practice your conversational skills, as you immerse yourself fully in the country’s culture.
On our English Language Course in Belize, you will receive an average of 15-hours of instruction per week, Monday to Friday. Classes are with a private tutor, or you will be in a small class with two or three other volunteers. Outside of the classroom, explore your surroundings and practice your conversational English at a market with a local trader, over a delicious meal with your host family, and with other Projects Abroad volunteers or staff in your free time.
We have a number of projects in Belize such as Care, Public Health, Teaching, Animal Care and Sports, with volunteers coming and going from around the world. This is the perfect chance to use your new English skills to talk to other volunteers about where they come from, what they are doing in Belize, and what life is like in their home country. You can do all of this while exploring one of the 250 Cayes (islands), during a trip to the famous Blue Hole or as you visit Mayan ruins.
Alternatively, if you choose to learn English in Belize while participating in a volunteer project, you can do a short 5-hour, 14-hour, or 30-hour course. These courses are tailored to your needs, and run alongside your main volunteer project. This is extremely useful if English is not your first language and if English would help with your volunteer work. If you are planning to volunteer abroad for twelve weeks or more, you could also complete a 60-hour course alongside your main programme.
