Volunteer Multi-sports Projects Abroad

A volunteer on a Multi-sports project in the developing world

Our Multi-sports projects involve coaching multiple sports to children of all ages in developing countries. These projects incorporate a number of exciting physical activities, all of which encourage participation and communication among those involved. This could include sessions at a community sports club or extracurricular lessons after school.

The Importance of Participation in Sport

In many state run schools across the developing world, funding is more likely to be spent on subjects such as maths and the sciences rather than physical education lessons. This means that many children and teenagers lack the opportunity to learn and participate in sports, which is why volunteer help is needed.

Sport not only provides mental and physical benefits, but also teaches vital life skills such as discipline and the importance of team work. Regular sports sessions can have a great impact upon those from disadvantaged backgrounds as it offers time away from the less positive aspects of life.

By taking part on these placements you can help nurture future talent in enthusiastic youngsters, teenagers and young adults. This can help to enhance their quality of life and teach them valuable skills that they will then use on a daily basis.

Your Role on a Multi-sports Project

Unlike some of our other Sports placements, our Multi-sports projects focus on a mix of sports. This will depend upon your chosen destination, but you may be involved in coaching some of the following sports; football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, hockey, rugby and cricket, as well as general fitness/physical education. The children you coach will be extremely keen to participate in a wide variety of sports so please feel free to let us know if you have any new ideas.

As a volunteer on this project you will be working with children and teenagers from the ages of 6 up to 17 years old, across a range of different organisations and centres including orphanages, care centres for the disabled and community sports clubs. In some countries you may also coach adults.

Previous coaching experience is not necessary but any existing skills you have combined with energy and enthusiasm will really help to give these youngsters a proper chance to take part.

So, whether you have a passion for a particular sport and are looking to spend time in a developing country, or are simply committed to making sport accessible for all, then why not join a Multi-sports project with Projects Abroad.
