In Argentina, volunteers who speak German can help local students improve their foreign language skills. This is an opportunity for you to gain practical classroom experience and you do not need to be a qualified teacher or have previous experience to join. You can volunteer as part of a gap year, career break, holiday, or during retirement.
Volunteering as a German teacher with Projects Abroad
If you choose to teach German in Argentina, you will be placed at a private kindergarten, primary school, or secondary school in the city of Cordoba. You will work alongside a local teacher as a teaching assistant, helping students between the ages of 6 and 18. The students you teach will range in ability, and some will be at an advanced level.
A typical day will involve four hours of teaching (mainly conversation, grammar, and vocabulary), with the rest of the day used for planning.
Argentinean students are eager to learn foreign languages from volunteers. Skills in foreign languages help raise their confidence and increase their future prospects. By taking the time to plan your classes, you can make sure that your students benefit greatly from having you there. We also recommend using authentic materials from home (magazines, postcards, and newspapers), games, and songs to create engaging lessons.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Argentina Teaching Management Plan.
In Argentina, you will have the support of the Projects Abroad Teaching Coordinator, who will be on hand to give you ideas and advice. Our staff also hold regular Teaching workshops that you can attend.
Schools in Argentina have their main holidays from the start of December to the end of February, with a shorter holiday in July. If you choose to volunteer in Argentina during these months, you will teach at a summer school programme.
